After what has been an incredibly challenging 18 months, we are excited to be opening the physical doors to The Cairn Hotel, for our first face-to-face meeting since March 2020. Welcoming members, guests and anyone looking to develop their communication and presentation skills, the 10th August 2021 will be a relaxed Toastmasters meeting, giving everyone a chance to catch up and familiarise themselves with the face-to-face event proceedings.
Operating under the global framework of Toastmasters International, a non-profit organisation with clubs all over the world, our group aims to help members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills, alongside strengthening soft skills such as confidence and resilience. Since the global pandemic, Strictly Speaking Harrogate has been operating online via Zoom meetings and has gone from strength-to-strength, signing up new members, welcoming overseas visitors and ensuring our public speaking community remains active, despite the climate.
The event on Tuesday 10th August will give you a taste of what Toastmasters is all about and how it can help you develop personally and professionally, with insight into a typical meeting as well as a chance to chat with some of our 35 members about their experiences at the club. Although the rules have relaxed, we will be mindful of members and guests, keeping an element of social distancing in place.
Jackie Hill, Club President and member says, "This is a big moment for us as a club, as we return back to the Cairn for face-to-face meetings. Despite the growth we have experienced across the last year and the positive feedback about the new digital skills the club members have developed, there is just something special about being in the same room as everyone and experiencing the atmosphere of speaking performances. Although we are planning to proceed with caution and maintain some of the online elements, exploring hybrid meetings and retaining some online Zoom sessions, we are all excited to be returning to the warm, friendly, and incredibly supportive, in-person club environment."
For more information make sure to get in contact with the committee, where you can sign up to join the face-to-face meeting.
We look forward to seeing you there!
